Greg McHugh
Born and bred in Edinburgh, Greg
McHugh is a rising star on the Scottish Comedy Circuit. Greg
is no stranger to the art of performing having studied at the
Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and it
is perhaps this background that gives him his unique and
irrefutable stage presence.
Greg’s act has a wide appeal.
Perhaps this is due to his natural ability to immediately connect
with his audience whatever its’ make-up, or possibly his
intricately woven stories based on everyday life that people can
relate to. Whatever his secret, Greg possesses a rare energy which
enables him to captivate his audience from beginning to end. His
material includes elements of popular culture, observational
anecdotes and views on the world at large yet he manages to keep
it original, compelling and more importantly very, very funny.
Greg has been gigging regularly
at comedy clubs throughout the country since he made his debut in
January 2002. His career has gone from strength to strength with
appearances at many major clubs including headline spots at
The Stand Comedy clubs in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Greg
also made a guest appearance on popular ‘Live Floor Show’
(BBC).
In early 2006 Greg wrote and
created a character based on a camp Tank Commander which was then
commissioned by Channel 4 for their ‘Funny Cuts’ Series as
shown on E4. Following the success of the broadcast, the director
of ‘Gary: Tank Commander’ (William Andrews) was nominated
in the ‘Best First Time Director’ category at the Scottish BAFTA’s
in 2006.
In March 2007 Greg performed as
Gary Tank Commander at the
Glasgow International Comedy Festival, at The Tron Theatre In Glasgow, the show was
produced by The Comedy Unit.
Greg now hopes to build on his
achievements as a writer and a performer by building up his
profile across the country. Greg’s originality and refreshing
delivery makes his an act not to be missed!
