Raymond Mearns
Larger than life and twice as much
fun, Raymond Mearns is one of the most experienced performers in
the United Kingdom and beyond - and still one of the hardest
working.
Having earned his spurs hosting
comedy nights at some of the most improbable venues in the
country, Raymond has now hit the big time as a much sought-after
compere. He regularly hosts nights at some of the biggest Comedy
Clubs in the UK including The
Stand Comedy Clubs - where he
is now one of the resident MC's. Other clubs including the massive
Jongleurs chain, The Hyena, The Frog & Bucket
and The Glee regularly use his services as well as his
stint as a festival headliner at the very prestigious New York
Underground Comedy Festival in 2005. Outside of his hosting
duties, his natural rapport with an audience and unerring ability
to work a gag have made him one of the most popular solo acts,
capable of producing a tightly structured set but with a
remarkably free-flowing style.
Raymond’s appetite for performing is
rivalled only by his appetite for hot pies. Since starting his
career in Glasgow’s infamous Comedy Cellar, (then hosted by
one Ed Byrne), Raymond has gobbled up the gigs, including a
highly successful tour of the Scottish Highlands in 2002, playing
to every type of crowd in every type of venue. The result is that
he is now one of the most adaptable of all comedians, as quick
with his brain as he is with his tongue and ready to dish out a
belly-full of laughs to hungry audiences everywhere.
Following a succession of sell out
one-man shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and
Glasgow
International Comedy Festival - Raymond has made a smooth
transition onto the airwaves as a regular contributor to the ‘Fred
MacAulay Show’ (BBC Radio). Additionally Raymond adopted a
number of guises on the ‘Live Floor Show’, (BBC1)
throughout 2002-3. During 2005-6 Raymond has appeared on shows as
diverse as John Thompson Stands Up for Comedy (Sky/Bravo),
The Smith Lectures (BBC RADIO 2) and soon to be heard radio
version of the hit improv show Dance Monkey Boy Dance!
Raymond is also an accomplished
actor having appeared on both stage and screen - memorably in the
BAFTA Award winning short film ‘Home’ in 1999 - and more
recently in Ken Loach’s critically acclaimed ‘Ae Fond
Kiss’ which was released in September 2004. In 2006 Raymond
was seen in the new BBC Scotland sitcom "Legit'" and in the
ITV cop drama REBUS.
Whether appearing as a Comedian or
an Actor, Mearns always delivers a first rate performance.
